Is your church paying attention to the changing population around it? Our communities are changing, and often our congregations look less and less like our neighborhoods! Read this great article from Paul Nixon about what the church can learn from the recent presidential election: http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render

Needed: Cooks, servers, dishwashers in Nichols. The people of the Nichols UMC have been cooking and feeding 100+ workers and volunteers at the Nichols Fire Department for four days, and are exhausted. They need help tomorrow (Wednesday). If you can help, please call Dot Richter at 607-972-4254.

Update from Nancy Adams at Newark Valley: So many people came to help cleaning up at church this morning that we were almost tripping over each other! The new scout master showed up with the scouts, which was wonderful but unexpected. Things are looking much better than they were Thursday and Friday. We realize that what we are dealing with is slight in comparison to many others.

Nimmonsburg UMC... the nearly 5 feet of water in the their lower level has now fully receded. The congregation, along with some volunteers from the District will be working all day to muck out the mud, and begin to tear out wet walls.

Tioga Center UMC... after two days of waiting, the people of the Tioga Center church were finally able to get to their building this morning. They have 29" of water in their sanctuary! Please pray for these folks... as they seek another place to worship tomorrow, and begin the hard work of cleaning up!

Maine Federated Church had significant water in both lower levels of the church building, as well as the parsonage and Zimmer house basements. However a fire department from Rochester pumped out three of those spaces... another by a local man. They were without electricity for about 36 hours... Some historical records were affected by the water, but, with help from some concerned children, are drying them out, and hope not to lose too much. We thank God for good neighbours!

Tioga Center UMC/Parsonage: Both are under water, it appears to at least the first floor (sanctuary) level. Yesterday the current was too fast behind the church to take the boat in to see how severe the damage was, but it appears from aerial photos to be in the first floor of the church and fellowship hall. If it has made it to fellowship hall, the furnace and water heaters, etc. are also affected.
