The Rescue Mission is proud to be a Participating Partner in the CNY 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge. United Way of Central New York, in partnership with the YWCA Syracuse & Onondaga County, launched the community-wide challege on October 1.. We’re encouraging our employees to take this personal journey, and we hope you’ll join us. This program is designed to help people consider challenging issues like race, power, and privilege in our community -- and the role... our experiences play in shaping our views. Each day, challenge participants will receive an email message on a specific topic, with links to related media. The message + media will help guide open-minded participants on their journey towards improving themselves, and their community, through an act of collective self-discovery. The challenge will conclude on October 21st, with A Community Conversation with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi presented by The Friends of the Central Library. Last month, Stay Fresh raffled them off - with all the proceeds to support our safe and affirming Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter (coming soon - still under renovation ).

Gary battled alcohol for most of his life, suffering the loneliness of not being able to interact with his family due to the severity of his addiction. After some time, Gary made a promise to his daughter that he would quit drinking for good. Many wonderful people at the Rescue Mission helped him accomplish that!
