Do you see a few streaky brown birds mixed in with the American Goldfinches on the Cornell FeederWatch cam? These small, sharp-billed birds are Pine Siskins, and we don't often see them visit this site. These irruptive finches range widely and erratically across North America each winter in response to seed crops, meaning Pine Siskins may monopolize your thistle feeder one winter and be absent the next. Look for subtle yellow edgings on the wings and tails of their otherwise streaky plumage to help with identification. See who stops by next LIVE at AllAboutBirds.org/CornellFeeders

Have you ever seen an Acorn Woodpecker? These striking birds spend much of their time hoarding thousands of acorns by jamming them into specially made holes in trees. You can find them living in oak and mixed oak-evergreen forests on slopes and mountains in the Southwest and West Coast, including the Davis Mountains in West Texas. Watch them LIVE at AllAboutBirds.org/TexasHummers
