Crazy to think this was early 2020. What a year! #HBD #JMB #60 ... The exhibition Our Friend, Jean closed last weekend after being on view since November. We were extremely proud to be able to bring this exhibition to Basquiat’ hometown and just as appreciative for everyone that came out to see it. We would like to give a very very special thank you to Alexis Adler and Al Diaz for helping this small gallery do big things. Juan Carlos Pinto introduced us to Chris Chambers who introduced us to Al. We developed a working relationship with Al and more importantly a friendship. He introduced us to some of his friends and they became our friends. Alexis would become one of those friends. Both Al and Alexis share some of the more rare, intimate and maybe even pivotal moments with their friend Jean-Michel Basquiat. Not only have they candidly shared their precious memories and relics with us but they have entrusted us to responsibly share them with the art world. Thank you Al and Alexis! My wife had the awesome idea of commemorating our marriage anniversary with art. I was immediately drawn to this piece, entitled Sankofa by @quianaparks . Sankofa is an Akan term which can be translated to mean, going back to the past and bringing forward what is useful. As we celebrate the last 5 years, I am excited to use the lessons learned to strengthen our union and make new memories.
