From the Legacy Project "I shall not pass from death ... I have come out. That's why I went to the Revolution, so that I would die." - Amelio Robles Avila Born in 1889 in Xochipala, Guerrero to a moneyed family, Amelio Robles Avila was educated as a strict Catholic. Assigned female at birth, Avila became part of the Society of the Daughters of Mary of the Miraculous Medal. At an early age, Amelio began to show a liking for skills that were traditionally ass...ociated with men such as the handling of weapons, shooting, roping, and mounting and taming horses. In 1912, he joined the Mexican Revolution when General Juan Andrew Almazan passed through his hometown. He was first sent on a mission to the Gulf of Mexico as part of a committee to raise funds from oil companies to aid the revolutionary cause. From 1913-1918 he fought under the command of the main revolutionary leaders of the state Jesus H. Salgado, Heliodoro Castillo, and Diaz Encarnacion. In the process, Avila adopted the male attire of a proud guerrillero and became Zapatista Colonel Amelio Robles Avila a key leader in the Mexican Revolution. Participating in many battles, Avila was known to shoot his pistol with his right hand while holding his cigar in the left. Avila openly displayed his attraction to women and when he met Angela Torres while in Apipilulco; she became his companion for most of the next decade. The military accepted Robles claims to a masculine identity and granted him a veteran’s pension. In 1970, he was officially recognized as a Veteran of the Mexican Revolution and awarded a medal as Honorary Legionnaire of the Mexican Army. In 1973, he received the Merit revolutionary. He died in December of 1984 at the age of 95. See more

Anarchism means people living free and working constructively. It means the destruction of everything that is directed against humanity's natural, healthy asp...irations. The social and political visage of anarchism is a free, anti-authoritarian society, one that enshrines freedom, equality and solidarity between all its members. Happy birthday to Nestor Ivanovych Makhno (27th October 1888) seen here having a laugh with the lads - not many insurrectionary anarchists could get away with that hat and jacket combo, Nestor could... *It is of interest that a number of veterans of his Insurgent Army did in fact go to fight in the Durruti column in 1936. How fitting, then, that Spanish CNT comrades should have provided financial assistance when Makhno lay mortally ill with tuberculosis in a Paris hospital. https://tenor.com/bbMzw.gif

Russell Maroon Shoatz is free! "Maroon is Free" chronicles the moments this morning just after former Black Panther and political prisoner Russell Maroon Shoatz was granted compassionate release after serving 50 years in prison. When we fight, we win. We will bring Mumia Abu-Jamal home.... We will bring Mutulu Shakur home. We will bring Sundiata Acoli home. We will bring Jamil Al-Amin home. We will bring Joe Joe Bowen home. We will bring Leonard Peltier home. Russell Maroon Shoatz is a veteran Black Panther who has been incarcerated since 1972. He is currently suffering from Stage 4 colorectal cancer with a terminal diagnosis that has caused a complete blockage of his digestive tract and requires parenteral nutrition through an IV in order to survive. Maroon has not received adequate care from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Since October 11, 2021, he has not been given any nutrition through his IV, effectively starving him to death.

Carlo Tresca came to Utica on several occasions, once for the national convention of the Italian Socialist Federation, and again to lead a march of 700 or so Italian antifascists to disrupt the speaking engagement of Italian fascist Giuseppe Bottai. He also went to Little Falls to assist the IWW Textile Worker struck which was brutally suppressed by the police (but the workers ultimately won). This is a must read!

. . . . ABOUT TRUMP’S EXCRETIONS Let the platitudes begin! All the fingers will now point at Trump, as though this mediocre snake-oil salesman is solely respons...ible for unleashing a mob of whining malcontents and white supremacists in the sacred halls of congress. The corporate media will be aghast and express indignation at the debasement of democracy. Liberal politicians will make plaintive bleeps about decency and denounce the unruliness of the crowd. Republican politicians will distance themselves from egregious acts (like going through their desks and walking off with the podium). Faux progressives will make patriotic denunciations of sedition and call for retribution. They will all heap praise upon the police. The police that allowed the protesters to enter without resistance. But, not to rain on everyones parade, all of these ruling class tools are equally culpable. It is the failure of liberalism to meet the needs of an increasingly impoverished working class that has laid the material basis for Trumpism. Failure to provide healthcare. Failure to provide housing. Failure to provide education. Failure to provide jobs. Those failures will now continue under the Democratic Party, as in the past. And all those that have encouraged working people to support the employers choreographed elections, their concession contracts, their militarism and their austerity must share the blame. It is not just Trump, but the entirety of the capitalist system that must be replaced. - - - - - - - Image: The Mob Detail from the mural THE RESURRECTION OF WESLEY EVEREST By Mike Alewitz/ 1997 Approx 20' x 40'/ Centralia, Washington #RedSquare #Murals #Alewitz
