The cure is worse than the disease: ok so a bit of a ‘looky what I got’ post - I’m now the proud owner of a ‘66 P Bass, all original, hadn’t been touched since the guy I got it from bought it from the daughter of the original owner. He played in Polka bands in NJ and PA, his union card and clip-on bow tie in the case. Pretty fuggin cool, as far as Polka goes. Have been gently cleaning ‘er and after a quick bridge adjustment is playing very well for something that’s probably never had a proper setup. OK, less talking, more playing. #fenderbass #fenderprecision #1966
Remembering Frank Kimbrough: these images are from around 2002/3, it took a bit of a deep dive into old CD-ROMS for scans - It’s been moving to see all the remembrances of Frank from the many musicians and music people who loved and admired him. For me he was a central figure of the period when I shifted energy from music to photography of music. Following around many of the artists in the Jazz Composer’s Collective was really my first ‘body of work’. Like many people, I grav...itated towards Frank because of his beautiful musicianship, ego-less hipness, kindness and accessibility. I took private lessons with him for a time at NYU, playing together, bass and piano, and trying to learn piano as a complete neophyte starting with Bartok’s Mikrocosmos, which he got a kick out of. Anyway, I wanted to dig back to the beginning of my work to acknowledge and honor Frank, and share a bit of how I saw him. See more
