We are excited to start our latest adaptive reuse project! This site formerly housed a two-story newspaper and fruit stand that served the South End neighborhood until the early 1960s. The heritage of informing the neighborhood while providing nutrients aligns with our mission and current projects. For this site, a public mural space, vertical garden and modern newstand is under development. Expect to see the finished project during Juneteenth 2021. Just making a little history...protecting Black spaces....Organizing for collective community healing...No big deal! This happened today! Carver will be rec...ognized by the State of NY and soon Nationally as a historic place of significance for its Social and Historical Contributions to Black History, Hamilton Hill & Schenectady. This is not a designation used to build some boutique hotel or high rise housing as they can be used to collect tax credits $$. This is recognition and homage to all those who have came before us to create and build community here, this is for their hard work & dedication, their innovation & genius, their love & care, their Black Excellence & this is for the inspiration that they continue to give me. Us young people will NOT let you down. We are not sitting by. Black history will not be erased this go round, not on my watch.
