The Buffalo River and the Niagara River are identified as federally designated Areas of Concern, of which both systems have suffered for nearly a century with disproportionate impacts of legacy pollution and habitat degradation. The decades-long struggle to reclaim and restore regional waterways continues to provide a significant return on investment for our community, as this Niagara River wetland restoration project was made possible because of a cleaner Buffalo River. It... should not be lost on anyone that the appropriately named Unity Island is an ideal location where the fates are being rewritten for these two recovering waterways, and demonstrates what is possible when a community carries a bold vision for cleaner, healthier water systems. According to the audit, 22% of the 371 sewer systems they looked at were not registered and thus, not reporting. This means anytime sewage was put into the water, the public was not made aware. https://www.wkbw.com//sewage-in-waterways-going-underrepor

This week is the last week to participate in bingo! Here are the activities: install a rain barrel/disconnect downspout and locate a CSO (combined sewer) or SSO (sanitary sewer) near you. Check your board to see if you've won the final round of bingo! bnwaterkeeper.org/bingo

Thanks to the ETL Team from Liazon/Willis Towers Watson for raising money for Waterkeeper in their team building event called Embarrass Your Boss. Anyone donating could pick a hair style/color that Ken would have for an entire week of meetings. What a fun and creative way to give back! Thanks for your support.
