Balance in life. Why is it important? Coach Tony here to give a trainer tip on balance. . Finding balance is the key to your own sustainablewell being. Taking deliberate action to take care of mind and body are more vital now than they ever were before. Being calm and active are two sides of the same coin. . It is easy to understand that the body needs movement and rest to operate at its most optimal. The mind craves the same balance. Taking time to self regulate and be sti...ll with your own thoughts is just as important as planning the future and stimulating the mind. Allowing your fear, anxiety, and worry to consume your thoughts all day is just as harmful as running your body into the ground without food, water or sleep. Let the negative pass through you as you would with discomfort of exercise. In both instances, if you can't do it on your own, then qualified professionals should be involved. Always respect the integrity of your experience. Give yourself permission to be kind to yourself and prioritize your own well being. . I have experienced extreme peace as well as incomprehensible duress in my life. One without the other makes the life lessons hollow. Take time to restorative in both mind and body so that you push both when needed. . If you need help in managing the physical side of things, always know that we can help. Reach out to us via DM, email, phone or just stop by. . . . #trainertip #balance #wellness #mindbodysoul #fitpro #nycfitness See more

Do you ever ask yourself, "what side should I hold the weight during a single leg movement like a forward lunge?" Well, as with most exercises, IT DEPENDS! Coach Ivana here to help you determine how to properly load your unilateral (or single leg) exercises once you've established a strong bilateral base. . Let's look at the forward lunge example above: you have the option to load the weight opposite the working leg, which would be contralateral, OR on the same side as the ...working leg, which would be ipsilateral. . At @bodyspacenyc, we usually encourage contralateral loading as a starting point not only because it's easier to maintain proper form and range of motion but because it fires up BOTH SIDES of the body, including the core, in a much more balanced and functional way. Ipsilateral loading puts greater physical stress on only ONE SIDE of the body, which requires significantly more stability to avoid compensations. . The weight you use when performing an ipsilateral loaded exercise may have to be slightly reduced until neuromuscular adaptations aka your mind/muscle connection has improved. . This doesn't mean that ipsilateral loading isn't beneficial - it absolutely is! - but I suggest getting proficient in contralateral movements before progressing to ipsilateral. . Remember: there is no right or wrong loading pattern, depending on your goals and training history, it's possible you may see a mix of both in your strength program! . #unilateraltraining #contralateralmovement #ipsilateralmovement #teambsf #bolfpack #bodyspacefitness #nyctraining #trainertip #welovefitness
