Each year, thousands of adults and kids are treated at hospitals across the U.S. for lacerations, burns and amputations resulting from the use of fireworks. Fireworks are the direct cause of many avoidable injuries we see in WMCHealth emergency departments, and we are concerned these injuries will rise this year with community members celebrating the Fourth of July with their own firework use, said Ivan Miller, MD, Director of Emergency Medicine at Westchester Medical Cent...er, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and MidHudson Regional Hospital, all members of WMCHealth. Even a simple sparkler can burn at 2,000 degrees, a temperature that can cause a severe burn. WATCH our video to learn the dangers of fireworks so you can be safe this holiday weekend. Seeking care immediately at the nearest emergency department or by calling 911 is critical after any serious injury. WMCHealth’s Westchester Medical Center is home to the Hudson Valley’s only dedicated burn center and along with WMCHealth’s Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital (pediatric), carries the state’s highest designation for trauma care. MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of WMCHealth located in Poughkeepsie is a Level II trauma center.

Local Walmart and Sam’s Club stores are once again joining forces to Change Kids’ Health, Change the Future by raising money for Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, a member of the WMCHealth Network, during the annual #HelpKidsLiveBetter campaign. Money is raised through a register campaign where customers and members contribute $1 or more at checkout. Customers also have the option to round up to the nearest dollar at the register, Walmart.com, and through the Walmart App.... This year’s campaign runs June 22 through July 19. All funds raised in the Hudson Valley and Fairfield County, CT Walmart and Sam’s Club locations directly benefit the kids treated at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. On behalf of Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and the kids served, we are grateful for our Walmart and Sam’s Club partnership. (Children's Miracle Network Hospitals)
