ATTENTION GENESEE COUNTY VETERANS The important part of the following message is all that is required of you is to be an honorably discharged from a branch of the US Military. You do not have to belong or join any American Legion or VFW. The following message is from Carl Hyde, Jr., he may be contacted directly if you feel you would like to join this very worth and much needed effort. (585) 356-2658... Soon the Western New York Veterans Cemetery in Pembroke will begin taking veterans for burial. The Joint Veterans Honor Guard of Genesee County, along with other Honor Guards from across the region, will be helping in providing honors for these fallen heroes. In addition, the JVHG will continue to provide honors for veteran burials in local cemeteries. This takes members to provide this vital service to the families of these deceased veterans. Recently, our organization has been hit hard by a combination of members aging out, medical issues, relocations, deaths, etc. This has left us short of people at times. But we are determined to continue on with our mission. This is our 13th year providing this needed service to the veteran’s families of this area. We have provided honors for nearly 600 funerals during that time. However, it is getting more difficult to meet, what we consider our sacred obligation. We are calling upon the veterans of Genesee County for help. We need individual veterans to step forword and serve once again. We accept any veteran, regardless of age, employment status, gender, branch or period of service, or veterans service organization membership. If you honorably served and can donate some time we could use your help. There are no fees or dues-just commitment to serve. If you are interested in joining, leave your name and contact information by calling 585-343-0085 (the Batavia American Legion Post) or dropping this information off at the Post, Fridays after 4:00PM or Saturday’s after 2:00PM, or by mailing it to the American Legion Post, 8960 Alexander Road, Batavia, New York 14020. ATTN: Honor Guard

The following was received from William R. Joyce, Director, Genesee County Veterans Service Agency. VA Western New York Healthcare System Selected as One of 37 VA Sites To Receive Initial Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine... BUFFALO, NEW YORK VA Western New York Healthcare System (VAWNYHS) announced it has been selected as one of 37 VA sites to receive initial doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. VA WNYHS was selected for its ability to vaccinate large numbers of people and store the vaccines at extremely cold temperatures. In accordance with Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, VA Western New York Healthcare System will begin vaccinating VA health care personnel and Veterans in VA’s long-term health care facilities now that the Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization for the vaccine. COVID-19 vaccine implementation will include an initial limited-supply phase followed by a general implementation phase, when large supplies of the vaccine will be available to Veterans who want to receive one. Our goal is to offer it to all Veterans and employees who want to be vaccinated. As more vaccine becomes available, we will announce it to schedule appointments with eligible Veterans. We are very excited to provide a vaccine that has the potential to help get COVID-19 under control when used alongside public health measures such as masking, physical distancing and frequent handwashing, said Michael Swartz, Executive Director. Veterans seeking additional information should visit the VA Coronavirus FAQs webpage. VA will provide more information to enrolled Veterans when the phased mass vaccination will be scheduled

Dear Customers and Residents of Genesee County: As you know, the GLOW, western New York and Finger Lakes regions are experiencing a significant spike in COVID-1...9 infection rates. If this trend continues, we could be headed for another lockdown that would impose significant burdens on small business. The pandemic has already devastated many businesses in our community and if we don’t do everything we can to combat the rising number of infections, the public health and economic situation in Genesee County will worsen. Governor Cuomo just announced that starting Friday, November 13th that New York State bars and restaurants must close at 10 pm due to the alarming increase in cases. We need everyone’s help in ensuring that we are not faced with even further restrictions or a second lockdown. Businesses in our community that were fortunate enough to survive the first lockdown may not be able to survive these new restrictions. Genesee County business owners and their employees are our friends, our family, and our neighbors and we owe it to our community to do all we can in preventing the spread of COVID19. There are several ways we can do this and in fact we have already done it, but we all know that COVID fatigue has settled in. We have to reverse this trend and become even more vigilant like we were when the pandemic first hit. First, whenever you are out in public, wear a mask. As we know from public health experts, wearing a face mask helps prevent the spread of the virus. Second, always remember to sanitize, sanitize, sanitize! Wash your hands regularly and when you cannot wash your hands, use a hand sanitizer. All of our businesses have hand sanitizer when you enter their premises. Finally, remember the importance of social distancing. Limit close face-to-face contact and do your best to maintain at least six feet from other people. Local businesses are the backbone of our economy and we need to come together again and raise our vigilance to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Remembering to take these precautions is all the more important as we approach the holidays where gatherings of family and friends adds another challenge in our efforts to be vigilant to limit the infection rate. We appreciate your understanding and more than ever wish you a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season. And remember, support your local businesses!
