As one of the original 53 Clubs to join the Federated Boys Club in 1906, the Wissahickon Club remained one of only two African American Clubs in the nation well into the 1920’s. In 1913, the Wissahickon Club came under the direction of William T. Before Denzel Washington became known for his acting, he was a kid attending the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon. At the Club, Denzel was mentored by Billy Thomas and learned several life-long lessons. Denzel has received several accolades for his work, in the movie "Glory" and "Training Day."
