What a Monday morning! The Elks Club of Canandaigua just walked in the door and presented us with a check in support of our feeding programs for $1,000! We are so grateful! Thanks, B.P.O.E #1844!!
Using funds from an Elks National Foundation Beacon Grant, our lodge delivered 20 food baskets to St. Vincent DePaul, for families in need. Thank you to the members who donated turkeys and to ER Renee for securing the remaining ones. Special thanks to Dick and Joyce Crudele, for doing the shopping and assembling all the baskets, and to Seneca Foods for donating the canned vegetables.
Be sure to get your ticket for this week's drawing!!!
The Canandaigua Elks Lodge has a long history of helping this community through: Drug and Alcohol awareness programs targeting school age children; veteran’s assistance programs and events at the VA Hospital; donations to local organizations as well as New York State Cerebral Palsy; hoop shoot and soccer programs for teenagers; scholarships given to local students; and food and gifts for families in need at Christmas. Each year Elks USA sponsors an Americanism Essay Contest f...or students in grades 5-8. The contest starts with the Local Lodges, progresses through District and State levels, and ends with the naming of the National Winners at the Grand Lodge Session the following summer. This contest provides students with the opportunity to express views on their pride in America. On the local level, we recognize the top 3 finishers in each division (Gr. 5-6; Gr. 7-8) at a presentation ceremony at our lodge with prizes of $100, $50, and $25 Visa gift cards. We have had students from our lodge progress to the state and national levels on several occasions. This year's theme is "How can Patriotism be Demonstrated? We are encouraging all students in grades 5-8 in our area to participate in this event.
