Please pray for us. It has been a rough year. We lost our very first alpaca, Desi. Her body was failing her and it was time. She was Conner's first alpaca, she was 19 years old. She was stubborn, always the last one in the barn, she protected the herd, was the herd leader. She stepped down about a year and a half ago and nobody else in the herd has taken over. Don't know if she was just that devoted or they respected her and didn't want to hurt her feelings by taking her job.... Oh how I wish animals could talk to us. A great mom. My favorite memory is when Stevie took her baby to be weighed, Desi chased him, he put baby down and jumped the fence. It was pretty funny. She was probably threatening and cursing him. We learned, I hold Desi back while Stevie weighs the baby. She got much better as years went on. I remember one morning we did chores, everything looked normal, and we hurried to get ready for church. When we pulled into the driveway after church there was a beautiful baby boy. We never saw Desi give birth, she thought that she could do everything on her own. She was a great mom, her babies never lost weight that first day like many others. Her babies always stood near her, they never wanted to leave her, almost as if they weren't allowed to play with the others but as they grew older they would roam farther. Thank you Desi for Abbey, Rascal, Dodggio, Rusty, and Junior. You did a good job. We finally could help you by letting you cross the rainbow bridge.This year had so many ups and downs. We have never experienced this many loses. We knew that the animals we lost were old and losing condition. Please know that we know and love all of our animals differently from different experiences and their personalities. Like people, there are no two the same. Some we love because they never leave us alone, some we love because they are the biggest grain hogs and are record spitters. Others love hugs and race aroundlike greyhounds. Desi was just so strong. I think her strength, and her love for her babies was amazing. We started giving her special treats every evening and morning for the last year, she finally showed some effection toward us and made us feel like she looked forward to seeing us. We would call her and she would come. Before that Desi was just royalty, alpaca queen of the herd, better than any human. I am glad she eventually showed us some effection and we could give the effection back. Each of our animals bring us joy in one form or another. God gained a fluffy angel, it would be perfect if he could send us a sign that she is running around in the green meadows. It would be a perfect night to see the Christmas Star. See more
