A Dow milestone. 30,000. The stock market is a leading indicator of our economy. Seems the market is optimistic. I am too.
In case you hadn't heard - the great songwriter, singer, actor, and quiet philanthropist Dolly Parton is one of the people who donated money to Vanderbilt University to help them find a vaccine for Covid-19. Thank you, Dolly.
Why is the market up when the winner of the election is still undecided? Conventional wisdom is that the market has determined that Biden will win the White House but the Senate will remain under Republican control. And the market loves the stalemate. Democrats in the House will try to push regulations and tax cuts and the Senate will stop them. Of course, there's the prospect of a Senate run off in Georgia, the Democrats might actually take the Senate. Will that result in a market sell off? Could be. But a recent Forbes article argues that a Democratic sweep would be best for the economy. This will be interesting ... https://www.forbes.com//biden-democratic-sweep-would-be-/
The 3.4% drop* in the market yesterday (10/28/20) may not have been fun, but it did present an excellent opportunity. It gave you the perfect moment to assess your risk tolerance. Did it make you break into a sweat and lose your appetite? If so, you are too aggressively invested. Time to lighten up on equities. Did you just shrug it off as the market doing what the market does? Then you've got a pretty robust risk tolerance. Carry on! Remember, risk tolerance is neither good nor bad. It's a personal thing and everyone is different. My Chris loves spicy food. Me? Not so much. Neither one of us has the "correct" taste. It's just who we are. Care to discuss? Call me! 518 514-1800. Thinking about investing ... in a new car? Yes, that's an investment too! Have you considered an electric vehicle (EV)? This article discusses the many ways an EV can save you money - from the cost of gas to the lack of need for oil changes. Plus I like red cars! (For the record, I drive a hybrid Toyota Prius. And, yes, it's red.) https://finance.yahoo.com//much-switching-electric-vehicle
