For NYC Property Owners: What to Do if You Believe Your Notice of Property Value (NOPV) Has the Wrong Information? If you disagree with your Assessed Value, you can challenge your Assessed Value by appealing with the NYC Tax Commission, an independent agency. ... Before filing with the Tax Commission, review your Notice of Property Value (NOPV) and if it has a line called "Effective Market Value", you must prove that your current market value is less than the Effective Market Value. Appeal Deadline to the Tax Commission: March 1 (Class 2, 3 and 4 properties) March 15 (Class 1) Appeals received after these dates will not be granted. The NYC website does have a wealth of information. Included are a few we thought can help: Assessment Homepage: https://www1.nyc.gov//fina/taxes/property-assessments.page Property Tax Estimator (Savings Calculator); https://www1.nyc.gov//property_calcul/tc1taxestimator.html Comparable Sales Tool: https://www1.nyc.gov//property-data-m/doftc1compsales.html Feel free to contact us with any questions.

How much is your time worth? According to the IRS, the average person who does their own tax return spends a total of 13 hours preparing and filing their return. (If you’re not spending that much time on your tax return, ask yourself why. What might you be missing?)... If you make $15/hour, that means spending 13 hours self-preparing costs you $195. And that’s just the cost of your time. The starting price of DIY tax software ranges from $29.95 to $104.99, and that doesn’t include all different ways TurboTax will nickel and dime you. Factor the software cost in and it can easily cost you more than $300 to do your own taxes. Those are just the hard costs - time and money. If you miss out on any deductions or other tax planning opportunities, that $300 figure can easily climb into the thousands of dollars. Before you do your own taxes this year, think about the real costs. Is it really worth it? At the very least, it’s worth exploring your other options. I could be able to save you hundreds of dollars on your tax prep costs this year. If you want a free, no obligation quote to have your taxes done, send me a message here on Facebook and I’ll be happy to give you a call and discuss your unique situation. Even if you decide to work with someone else, I guarantee you’ll walk away from our call with valuable advice and peace of mind. I’m here to help you.
