How did you feel on the first day of school? What kinds of emotions can we feel? How do you feel when a friend doesn’t want to play with you? How do I help my friend who is feeling sad? What do feelings look like? These are some of the topics we discussed last week at BB as we continued building on the children’s social emotional well being and understanding. Social emotional learning, critical in the early childhood years, is the process in which children learn to recogniz...e their own emotions and the emotions of others, establish connections with others, learn to make good decisions and approach challenges. We had many great group discussions, we did some role-playing between the teachers and children to model behavior when we feel sad or mad and we read some wonderful books that introduced characters and situations that were relatable to the children.
