Families, I am writing to you today deeply troubled and concerned about recent acts of violence and hate targeting Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. The events that took place Tuesday in Atlanta and reports of a sharp rise in hateful acts toward members of the AAPI community are another tragic reminder of the need for us to continue working towards a society where all humans are included, valued, celebrated, safe and truly free to be who they are... in every way. They are also tremendously terrifying and concerning for so many of our friends and neighbors. My personal feelings aside, as an educator and community member, I would like to make it clear that we are here in support of our Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander students and their families. Acts of intolerance, explicit and implicit, will not be tolerated. Putting any members of our school community in harm’s way physically or emotionally is unacceptable and not who we endeavor to be at Brighton. If you or your children need additional support in managing the complex and significant emotions that result from an incident like this, please reach out to your child’s counselor, teacher, administrator or me. If you or any of our students are feeling targeted, unsupported or hurt in any way, please contact us so that we can help. We take seriously our responsibility to provide each and every member of the school community a meaningful, caring, challenging and above all else, safe, learning environment each and every day. Sincerely, Kevin Kevin McGowan, Ed. D. Superintendent of Schools every child, every day, every way

Dear Members of the Brighton School Community, Current Numbers Since our last update, there have been three new positive COVID cases as confirmed by Monroe County. There has been one case in the CRPS population, one at FRES, and one at TCMS. Two of the three are hybrid students and one is among the remote population.... Six additional members of the school community are in official quarantine as directed by the Monroe County Department of Public Health. Other individuals are self-isolating or quarantining at the request of their doctor, school personnel or of their own accord while awaiting additional contact tracing. Reopening Please see Monday’s message for more detailed information. We are hopeful that all families can complete the initial survey by this Friday at 6 p.m. Most families have already responded. Please know that this is not a commitment, but an initial survey to gauge needs and to further help us in planning specifics. The link is here: https://www.bcsd.org/site/default.aspx If the infection rate goes down (PLEASE KEEP DOING YOUR PART), and new guidance is provided that gives us a way to safely reopen fully for five days per week, and your feedback on program choice can be managed in a full reopening, then we will move ahead to do so. Stay tuned Travel Immediately following last week’s message, we were notified that travel restrictions have been revised to only require quarantine for international travel. There is significant concern that travel to areas where there is more prevalence involving COVID-19 variants will cause additional transmission in Monroe County. Please continue to be vigilant. Thank you for your support! Once again: Keep masking, keep distancing, and keep smiling. We are in this together and are so appreciative of your support, patience, help, and understanding. Kevin Kevin McGowan, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools

Dear Members of the Brighton School Community, As I write to you this evening, unprecedented events are taking place in our nation’s capital. My apolitical message to you as an educator is that our discussions with your children over the coming days will focus on: 1. Reinforcing messages related to safety, security, and support. Depending on the age of your children, images and stories that they are exposed to can cause significant anxiety and concern. Our ethic of care neces...Continue reading

The Brighton Preschool/Parent Program has been a part of the Brighton Central School District for over 60 years. It offers children an opportunity to share and learn together in a safe and nurturing environment where each child is valued and accepted as a unique individual. Parents register their child for preschool two, three or four days per week. There is a morning option and an afternoon option; 9 to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 to 3 p.m. Children and their teachers meet in a well...-equipped classroom on the first floor of the Administration Building, 2035 Monroe Ave. The program follows the District calendar, not meeting when schools are closed for holidays, recess periods or due to inclement weather. Preschool is open to children who will be three years of age by Dec. 1, 2021. Information about preschool and tuition fees is available at www.bcsd.org/preschool. Applications for the upcoming 2021-22 school-year session will be accepted and processed on a first come, first served basis starting Jan. 16, 2021. Preschool registration is being handled online this year to limit the number of visitors to school buildings during the pandemic. Applications may be completed at https://brightonschools.revtrak.net; follow the graphic link to the Brighton Preschool/Parent Program page. Our classes fill quickly, please complete your application (including a non-refundable deposit of $100) soon to avoid being waitlisted. If you have questions about the preschool, please contact the Director of Community Education and Preschool at 242-5200 Ext. 5595 or [email protected].
