The new year 2021 , has been met with a good success. The. Virus year 2020, was sad difficult and also.with times of joy. The winter was cold and rough. Bringing with it inches of rain and a ton of moisture. The Shearing tradition was relaxing and entertaining. It is a Spring event I most enjoy, following a great lambing I am blessed to have family who will help. Everyone knows to much rain and humidity brings bugs! Which brings me to the next issue, Gnats. This year they came earlier and have stayed longer. They are the worst for biting the belly of my sheep and my horses. My horse Monte is highly allergic to bug bites. Going into summer we have had horrible hot humid days and nights. So many thunderstorms and climate variations. Peace to everyone and be safe!
Spring has brought the farm 4 new lambs. It is with high hopes that I will be able to find a home for my wool. Last year there was no Wool Pool due to Covid and there will be no Pool this year. The Covid sure has devastated this country.Spring has brought the farm 4 new lambs. It is with high hopes that I will be able to find a home for my wool. Merry Christmas to all my wooly friends and families!Merry Christmas to all my wooly friends and families!
Winter has begun with frozen water buckets, and digging paths to each barn. I am hoping all my ewes are bred and two of my 2 year olds may be expecting early.
What happen to going from fall to winter weather? Again we go from a rainy December to a full out winter storm bringing single digits and wind chill factors of -25 below.
Fall is around the corner and almost breeding season. Rams for sale and a few ewe lambs as well.
What a hot humid sticky summer. The horses and sheep are longing for cold weather. I am very concerned when we have super hot days. The water buckets have to be changed atleast 3x a day. The sheep stalls have to cleaned every other day . I have been calling this the year of the fly. I have literally been killing them by the hundreds. My Fly Predators aren't working well this summer as they have in the past. The various hornets have taken residence in my stall walls. I have called Pest Control to come and get rid of them. I got a nasty bee sting this past sunday.
What a short lambing season this year 2018. A total of 6 lambs, 5 ewe lambs and 1 ram lamb. We have had several weeks of unbearable hot weather. Many days in the 90's with little to no rain. I have no lambs for sale this year. Hay has been very hard to find as well.
