Skied Egypt Road trail system today. Lots of cars in the parking lots. Conditions were wonderful- groomed and smooth. No stickiness today. Saw various folks bu...t easy to social distance. One family was having a great time snowshoeing through the woods! The Egypt rd trail system is notable for its glacier formations: esker, valleys, kettle bowls and glacial erratics. See more

1/16: checked out parts of Jackson Hill and the Canal trail. Both were good skiing with skier laid tracks. Gliding was excellent. The usual wet spots were visib...le a mile south of Boonville on the canal, but, skiers were making their way through them. I skied Into the Woods trail on Jackson Hill and it was good. I spoke with another skier who did the loop including Adirondack Fields and she said she the trails were in great shape with one open spot towards the top of Adirondack Fields. It was excellent conditions for snowshoeing! We will see what tonight’s snow brings. Happy skiing and snowshoe! See more

Did you know you can help protect NY’s forests while you hike, snowshoe, or x-country ski this winter? It’s easyall you have to do is keep an eye out for invas...ive hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA)! This forest pest kills hemlock trees in the eastern United States. HWA is tiny, so infestations are best identified by the white, woolly masses the insects create at the base of the needles on infested hemlock trees. You can report findings using the NY iMapInvasives app or by emailing photos and location info to DEC at [email protected]. Love exploring the Western ADK/St. Lawrence region? Our friends at SLELO Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management are offering prizes for those who look for HWA in that area. Learn more at https://on.ny.gov/3nMxYHd. #ForestFriday
