Department of Health: Bronx Neighborhood Action Center BxCRRB Presentation
Yesterday, Al Greene and I were reviewing the #CERA project’s expenditures calculated by our fiscal conduit. We take issue with some of their numbers, but do no...t dispute the $4K we spent on food. We originally budgeted $2,000 a year. That little bit of money fed so many people. We ate some GOOD ass food too, it wasn’t just pizza. We actually spent way more, but I’ll eat the excess costs. I’m sharing because lots of aspiring action researchers and organizers email me about the dynamics between ethics, funding, relationship building, and participatory research. I’ve always advised to get funding for co-researchers, to decline getting paidif money is tight and you need to get a project off the ground. Academics will get reimbursed eventually...maybe not monetarily but we will get paid. But you CAN’T SKIMP on the FOOD! Sharing a meal expresses concern and love. Eating together affords opportunities to humbly listen. You can’t talk back when you’re chewing! Sharing meals reserves time to learn each other, including learning what constitutes disrespect, our individual, collective histories and yearnings for the future. If you wanna conduct community engaged or participatory research, you gotta budget or come out your pockets for good food! #PCORIEngagementAward #NoResearchAboutUsWithoutUs #BxCRRB See more
Al Greene & I just got off the phone with the New York State Health Foundation about the edits to our LOI submission. They received 135 applications for their P...atients as Partners funding. We are 1 of 13 finalists for the 4-6 grants they will ultimately fund. We are feeling ourselves right now you hear me!!! They LOVE our work. We need y’all to light some candles, meditate, and pray on this for us. S/o Dr. Justin Brown’s grant writing skills. We singing This shit got us in our feelings. Gotta be real with it, yup. Bx, do you love us? Are you riding? Say you'll never ever leave from beside us #InOurFeelings #BxCRRB #NoResearchAboutUsWithoutUs See more

Tonight is the graduation ceremony for the #BxCRRB’s Community Engaged Research Academy (#CERA2018). This project was designed to catalyze radical patient engag...ement by teaching public health research methods to ordinary folks, to build their capacity to conduct community-based researchwithout researchers. It took a village of AMAZING people for this to be successful. This is what ethical, loving, restorative, healing, participatory action research looks like. This is CERA 2018! #PCORIEngagementAward #BxCRRB #NoResearchAboutUsWithoutUs See more
