Join us and Newtown Creek Alliance on October 29th at 7pm for the release of the film series (broadcast publically on Facebook and Youtube) and various interactive features related to the Creek and NCA. The Tidal Toast is NCA’s annual benefit that brings together local neighbors, businesses and Creek enthusiasts to celebrate our crucial efforts to Reveal, Restore and Revitalize our beloved waterway. Funds raised from the event help sustain and expand our outreach, advocacy, e...ducational programming and restoration projects in and around Newtown Creek. Support the Tidal Coast today: http://www.newtowncreekalliance.org/tidal2020/ Due to COVID restrictions, we are unable to have our annual in-person benefit party within the Kingsland Wildflowers at Broadway Stages building this year. So instead of raising a glass and enjoying local foods and live music we are creating an online Tidal Toast which will feature a series of short films about NCA’s crucial hands-on work and community engagement even during these extremely difficult and unstable times. Get a sneak peak and check out our event trailer here.

UPDATE: There are now TWO zones in Brooklyn Governor Andrew Cuomo revised zone-based guidelines across New York City. RED(micro-cluster zone): positivity rate over 4% for 10 days AND 10 or more new daily cases per 100,000 residents on 7-day average. The following restrictions still apply: closure of schools, nonessential businesses, mass gatherings, limiting restaurants to delivery and takeout, and houses of worship to 25% capacity or 10 people. YELLOW (buffer zone): posit...ivity rate of 2.5% for 10 days AND 10 or more new daily cases per 100,000 residents on 7-day average. The buffer zone refers to the area of focus surrounding the red zone to stop the spread of COVID into the broader community. How does a neighborhood move out of the red zone? The area's positivity rate must decline on a 7-day average over 10 days AND the positivity rate is lower than 3%. How does a neighborhood move out of all zones? The positivity rate must be less than 1.5%. These guidelines are effective immediately and subject to revision after 14 days.

On Monday, we visited with Amy Bennett at her gourmet grocery store The Greene Grape in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, to deliver additional PPE and business recovery guidance. Via ABC7NY Bennett said the fact they dropped off masks and gloves is huge and that it is one less thing to do. She says she can spend her time growing her business and training her workers. Our partner CohnReznick is hosting a webinar this Thursday - Opportunity Zone Summit: The Future of the OZ Marketplace Thursday, October 15 from 1pm to 3:25pm Register here: http://go.cohnreznick.com/oz_webinar_summit.html... Almost three years after the passage of the 2017 TCJA brought to life the first new community development tax incentive in nearly 20 years, there’s still far more that we don’t know than we do know about the rules of the road for Opportunity Zones (OZs), and how they can and should be implemented. Still, we want to share what we have learned so far, at least as a buttress against the abundance of misinformation, wishful thinking, and confusion. We welcome investors, fund managers, developers, and, most importantly, community members to join us for this virtual event to kick-start a dialogue about the promise and challenges related to Opportunity Zones. Tune in for: Panel 1: OZs and the first 100 days of the new administration Panel 2: Maximizing sustainable impact and community benefit in OZs Panel 3: How to catalyze operating businesses in OZs
