The third and final part of our COVID posture series of exercises! Attached are videos of band resisted should blade squeezes and a band resisted book opener exercise. These exercises are designed for shoulder blade strengthening and correction of rounded shoulders. We hope this COVID posture series was beneficial in minimizing your pain and stiffness due to being stuck working from or being quarantined at home! #thebrownstonedifference #physical therapy #ergonomics

We would first like to thank everyone who participated in the turkey trot and/or donated money for T-shirts that will be used to buy gifts for students at our local schools! While our posture series was interrupted with fun Thanksgiving and Halloween posts, we are back at it with part 2 of the series. Here are 3 flexibility exercises intended to stretch some of the more commonly shortened/stiff muscles that may be experienced during this quarantined period where we are stuck ...using technology for many interactions. 1 & 2) Doorway 90/90 pec stretch-this stretch to address stiffness in the pecs and front of the shoulders, often identified as rounded shoulders (stretch can be done 1 side at a time). 3) Upper trapezius stretch- while sitting or standing, place one hand on the top of your head pulling towards one side as indicated in the picture, this should stretch the back side of the neck. 4) Book opener stretch- in standing, begin with hands together and slowly turn to move your arms away from each other while following the moving arm with your head. This is a dynamic stretch, particularly beneficial when used as a warm-up prior to exercise. Always remember, any of our therapists will be more than happy to answer any questions regarding these stretches and add additional posture related stretches upon request. So come in and see us at any of our 3 locations today... part 3 (postural strengthening) to come later this week!! #physicaltherapy #ergonomics #thebrownstonedifference
