To say we are heartbroken would be an understatement Dear Brownsville: It is with deep sorrow that I share that our dear friend and colleague Mr. Richard E. Swinson has passed away. After a long series of medical complications, he suffered a stroke on Thursday evening that led to his death the following morning, Friday, May 15th 2020. ... There is so much that can and will be said about Richard's big heart, and huge impact on the Brownsville Community. Richard was such a joy to be around, anyone who met him even once knew that he was an extremely kind and wise man. He was warm, caring, calming and thoughtful, yet he was such a powerhouse personality, all while maintaining a steady demeanor in the face of such strong emotion around the issues we’re trying to change. In the spirit of his friend and mentor, our beloved Gregory Jocko Jackson, the founding leader of the Brownsville Partnership, Richard himself was a great mentor, father-figure, friend to so many, and a key member of our Brownsville team for many years. His sage advice was such a treasure as the countless number of young men and women he mentored and supported during his time at the Brownsville Partnership can attest to. His words and actions saved lives. Despite his passing, we feel we have a moral obligation to carry the best of him forward. We’re sure he would want it this way. Brownsville and CS will not be the same without him. The family is still working on plans for a memorial service. We'll make sure to keep you apprised of the details. With a heavy heart, The Brownsville Partnership Team
