On January 3, 2005, Aviall Services Inc (USA) created 'The Aviall Product and Catalog Book' which is the world’s largest printed catalog. The catalog comprises 2,656 pages and weighs 7.4 lbs. It is 2.8 inches thick.

Johannes Gutenberg, who was a goldsmith by profession, modified a wine press to make the first movable type printing press in about 1439. The equipment was adapted to press metal letter forms onto sheets of parchment, paper, or vellum.
