Here's a peek into our intermediate level silks class. I caught our awesome silks instructor @jenndrakulich in action yesterday as she was teaching this sequence. (Jenn and Hannah @hml0223 team teach this class every Sat. at 10).

This #TrapezeTuesday is dedicated to an inspirational trailblazer and supporter of performing arts. Regardless of her politics, any woman who takes on law school at a time where she was outnumbered by men 500:9 and graduated first in her class is pretty incredible in our book. Since she took in as much musical theater and opera as she possibly could, our trapeze instructor Jess Bennett decided to create a little RBG-themed sequence for this week. It starts off in a very small..., compacted position, then explosively passes the bar. That is followed by an eagle on the bar then climbs to the highest position before a descent (ahem dissent ) into angel and ending in a hammer (gavel) hold. Hi all!!! Our Astrology challenge is still running and you can win a free class!!! I really wanted to do this challenge for a few reasons. One is that I like the idea of a quick and simple challenge that gets the job done but it's not a huge commitment. Two is really important. Since the whole pandemic started, I have been home a lot more than usual, and have had more time than I've had in years to work on my skills with virtual coaches and my own personal training practice.... So much of what you can do at home is basically strength training, (and some mobility/flexibility work, but those skills come a lot easier to me personally). As an aerialist of 12+ years, I'm pretty strong in general. I would do my conditioning, and coach and practice, but I never really specifically devoted much time to strength training. Let me tell you what a difference it has made. After more than a decade of so many different methods of learning and teaching aerial, it kind of blows my mind that it can be that simple. Sometimes it really is that simple. Building your upper body strength in particular can open up so many new skills. I have grunted and groaned through many a pull-up and plank workout over these past 5 months, and in the moment, sometimes I do kind of hate it, but when I get in the studio and climb the silks or do a fancy lyra mount, all that effort is so worth it. Moves that were a battle 6 months ago feel much easier and smoother, and I know it has everything to do with these home workouts. So this challenge is another invitation for you to get on the strength training train with me! And finally, I love being a picky, over-analyzing, perfectionist Virgo.
