Getting reports of a bright meteor that was visible from Buffalo around 12:30 PM. We have two individuals that messaged us. Did anyone else see it?

If you have a clear view of the Moon and a telescope, look for the Lunar X tonight. Peak visibility is around 9:23 PM. Will be visible about an hour or two before and after the peak. #lookupwiththebaa #BuffaloAstronomicalAssociation

This event will require a telescope. Friday October 16th around 10:21 PM, Jupiter’s moon Io will suddenly appear off the Eastern edge of Jupiter. What’s going on? Io will be emerging from Jupiter’s shadow (an eclipse). Jupiter will be very low in the southwest (about 10 degrees above the horizon). Io will appear on the same side of the planet as Jupiter’s other 3 Galilean moons and will be the closest moon to the planet once it appears. It will initially be very faint and will brighten over the following few minutes. Hopefully the skies will cooperate. #lookupwiththebaa #buffaloastronomicalassociation

Stop by the BAA https://www.buffaloastronomy.com/blog/ and check out Patrick Crants's images from our virtual star party last night. They are fantastic.

Hopefully we get some nice breaks in the clouds tonight (Tuesday 8/25). The 1st Quarter Moon will be near the bright star Anteres. If you replaced our Sun with Anteres, it would extend past the orbit of Mars. If you have a telescope, look at the terminator (line between the day side and night side on the Moon) and see if you can spot the Lunar X and V. They should be visible from about 6 PM to 10 PM, peak visibility between 8 PM and 8:30 PM. #Lookupwiththebaa #buffaloastronomicalassociation
