CPAP technology is playing a crucial role for our healthcare workers! 3B Medical announced today receiving Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA to permit use of Lumin, a UVC system, on N95 respirators during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lumin was designed to clean CPAP accessories but is also used as a multi-purpose sanitizer. Today’s announcement by the FDA allows Lumin to be used by healthcare workers employed in nursing homes, long term acute care, ambulatory, primary care, and clinics to allow N95 re-use to stop the spread of COVID-19 and help keep frontline health care workers safe.

Adherence to CPAP therapy is a problem in terms of both frequency of use and duration of use per night. A review of randomized control trials of CPAP compliance between 2011 and 2015 found adherence varied widely from 35% to 87%. The average hours of CPAP use per night was found to be five hours. Patients adherent to CPAP therapy at one month remained adherent at one year, suggesting patients using CPAP for one month were more likely to continue use at one year. Impediments to CPAP use typically involve the facial interface discomfort, lack of humidity and pressure intolerance. Whatever your issues are, we can help. "I am a 52-year-old male, married, and the father of a four-year old child. I am currently a manager for a government agency and supervise nine employees, thanks to successful treatment of my sleep apnea. Life before treatment was not as good... For those out there who suffer chronic fatigue, snoring, and daytime somnolence no matter how much sleep they get, do not give up hope. See a sleep specialist. Undergo a sleep study. Persist in finding your solution. Do not give up. And if you have sleep apnea, by all means, give yourself every chance to get used to breathing and sleeping with a CPAP. It is truly life-changing." This is Bill, he shares his struggles with sleep apnea and how CPAP changed his life forever. Connect with Bill and read his story here http://ow.ly/FCns50BECmg

The only obstacle for patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea is getting them compliant with CPAP treatment. Some people have trouble tolerating the air pressure when starting CPAP therapy. You may be able to overcome this by using a machine with a "ramp" feature. This setting allows you to start with low air pressure. The machine then automatically and slowly increases the air pressure to your prescribed setting as you fall asleep. Your doctor can adjust its rate. If this feature doesn't help, talk with your doctor about changing to a device that automatically and constantly adjusts the pressure while you're sleeping. An example is a bi-level positive airway pressure (BPAP) machine that delivers more pressure when you breathe in and less when you breathe out.
