Buffalo Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 02.11.2020

JustServe.org highlight of the week: Feedmore WNY in downtown Buffalo! This organization is Covid-sensitive so you can feel safe. If you have a soft spot in your heart for alleviating the hunger of the homeless and the needy, this is an organization that is dedicated to that purpose. They have lots of time slots to work with, too. Check it out: https://www.justserve.org//c23e5fde-fc98-4102-9be3-e813900

Brand new JustServe.org posting and this is a great one!! Building beds for children at Eastern Hills Mall. The organization is called Sleep in Heavenly Peace. This is a great project for members and is quite popular with groups. Check out the posting on www.JustServe.org and enter zip code 14221 to see what it's all about!! And then... VOLUNTEER!! As it says in 3 Nephi 17:21 - "...he took their little children one by one and blessed them and prayed unto the Father for them". I invite you and the members of your wards and branches to follow in the footsteps of the Savior in blessing these children one by one.

Dear members of the Buffalo Stake, As the last of the nine food deliveries commemorating the 200th anniversary of the 1st Vision of Joseph Smith was made this past week within the Buffalo NY Stake, it is time to express gratitude for the accomplishment of this ennobling opportunity to remember that wonderful day of true theophany which ushered in the restoration of the Savior’s Church upon the earth. There can be few better gifts given to us than to be able to give significa...nt donations of food (26 tons, 52,000 pounds!) to local food pantries whose goal is to nourish God’s children. First thanks to those who began the idea of 200 for the 200th, Sr. Kristen Dimick, Regional Communications Director, Elder D. Todd Christopherson, Quorum of the 12 Apostles, Elder Marc Clay, recently released Area Authority Seventy, and recently called, Elder Nathan D. Pace, Area Authority Seventy. This was a herculean task bringing food to the many stakes and their units. It was a proud moment seeing those pallets filled with food from the best label which money can never buy-Deseret. Each case was filled with the sacrifices of individuals’ time and money to see that it was prepared for the feeding of the needy. Thanks to the Communications Council of the Buffalo Stake which found, through the ward and branches, the appropriate food pantries to which the donations were given. Each food pantry’s director expressed, through prayers and messages, gratitude for the donations which would significantly help their pantries serve those in need. It was a blessing to meet with old friends and make some new friends at each of the pantries. Next, thanks to the personnel at Buffalo Tungsten, Ralph, Roger and Jeff Showalter, Jason Lahti, the drivers Mark, Dave Tidwell, Bernie Benson, and the muscle Dallin and Marshall Hatch. They allowed the food to be warehoused, broken down and organized into individual distributions, wrapped and then safely delivered to each pantry. What a task accomplished by those good men! What a kindness given to this initiative! Thanks for the wards and branches which so willingly met, moved and stocked the deliveries. You brought a spirit of Christian charity to each experience. To see the youth, sisters, brothers, full-time missionaries, the leadership, all volunteering to see the tasks of delivery accomplished. There were smiles on the faces of all who participated. Now one parting comment. Sr. Dimick has asked that each member within the Buffalo Stake, go to the JustServe site and sign up for one of the service opportunities offered. This will remind us of how service changes each one of us for good. President Gordon B. Hinckley said, The best cure for despair is service. May we never forget this principle and cherish our memories of delivering 200 for the 200th. Bruce Strassburg, Communications Director, Buffalo, NY Stake
