I write to make peace with the things I cannot control. I write to create fabric in a world that often appears black and white. I write to discover. I write to uncover. I write to meet my ghosts. I write to begin a dialogue. I write to imagine things differently and in imagining things differently perhaps the world will change. - Terry Tempest Williams Join us on Tuesday, Oct. 20 to celebrate National Day on Writing and tell us why *you* write!

BIG NEWS! Because all our services are remote this semester, we wanted to think of some new and creative ways to connect with our fellow Bengals. The result? The Writing Center has launched "Just Write," a PODCAST for student writers! Listen to your favorite tutors share writing tips, give advice, and talk about their own lessons learned as writers. Check us out on Spotify (or click the link below!) subscribe, and let us know what you think! Ideas for future episode are also welcome! https://open.spotify.com/episode/7D4FC72slsG6ErleLfSmd8

This week we're wishing congratulations and good luck to all the graduating Bengals, but especially our own peer tutor, Peter LaPorta, who is graduating this semester with his MA in English! Working at the Writing Center, says Peter, taught him "the importance of our abilities as humans to help each other and care for one another through writing and person to person contact. It helped me blossom as a person and a writer...The Writing Center is one of the most important outlets a student can utilize at Buffalo State College, and I will never forget my time there." Please join us in wishing Peter all the best in his future endeavors!

Today's writing tip comes from our peer tutor Madison, hard at work tutoring online from her dorm! She says, "when writing a paper about a topic I am not too familiar with, I find it very useful to use productive procrastination. I watch videos and crash courses based on the topic and learn a lot more information." After doing this, she notes that she "would also find the same information in journal articles" making them much easier to understand! Madison, and all of our tutors, can help you with your final research papers, or any other writing assignment you might have. Make your appointment in Bengal Success Portal today!

With all those final papers just around the corner, we thought we'd offer up more writing tips from our tutors this week! First up is a familiar face: our long-time professional tutor (and Caring Bengal Award Recipient) Barrett, pictured here, tutoring from his home office! Barrett encourages students to try out the Writing Center's online tutoring tools, whether it be chat or video or audio, noting that it's important "to explore all the different tools in our bag because w...e are, after all, highly adaptive creatures; but at the same time, remember to exercise the profoundly simple strategies that’ve gotten us through most of the difficult times in lifestepping back, having perspective, and helping each other out:)" And we're here to help YOU out with your end-of-semester papers and projects. Log into Bengal Success Portal now to book an appointment with Barrett or one of our other awesome tutors! See more
