My name is Kelly And I’m still here at the Yonkers Animal Shelter looking for a home. I’m posted all the time. I imagine everyone knows my name by now. ... I’ve been here about 4 months now. I’m eight years young and I’m a sweet and friendly Rottweiler. The only reason that Kelly wound up here was that her owner was unable to care for here. She was a loved dog and you can tell because she is calm and confident and very comfortable around people and animals. She’s not crazy about in your face dogs but she’s pretty much ok with any respectful dog she has met. Kelly is about 85 lbs children 10 and up To make an appointment to see her text us at 201-981-3215 or e-mail [email protected] Or you can stop in at the Yonkers shelter seven days a week from 11-4 at 1000 Ridgehill Boulevard in Yonkers. Some of these pictures were taken yesterday in the rain so If Kelly’s coat looks different it’s because she’s wet ! See more

Perry the Pittie wants to go Home ! Perry has been at the Yonkers Animal Shelter for quite some time. He’s a nice dog who has encountered some setbacks physica...l setbacks. First Perry had a bad case of Happy Tail and had to wear a cone for some time to get his tail to heal. Then, he somehow managed to break his leg though we never quite knew how. We guessed it was from jumping in his run and maybe slipping. His leg healed beautifully and then would you believe he got happy tail again This time the decision was made to dock his tail so that it wouldn’t keep happening. Now, he looks adorable and is finally in the best shape ever. Perry is about 3 years old and 40 lbs. he is dog selective and may be best as the only dog in a house with older children or adults. The owner should be an experienced dog owner ,not a first time owner. Perry loves to run and play ball. He listens when spoken to and comes when called. The shelter is closed at this time because of the virus however approved rescues are welcome to pull dogs. In fact we look forward to their help. For more info call or text 201-981-3215 See more

We posted this plea for Astro several days ago but few people see our posts so especially now we have to keep reposting. Also , staff member Michael John Olmst...ed took this beautiful picture yesterday and we wanted to feature it for everyone to see today. A Special Needs dog needs rescue Astro is a beautiful gray dog who has been here at the Yonkers Animal Shelter about 10 months now. While he is a special needs dog his problem is completely manageable. He had a prolapsed rectum when he first came in and it was surgically repaired some time ago. He simply needs to take a Colace pill once a day and he eats ID food. Otherwise he is fine He’s very people oriented and has a dedicated volunteer who has been spending a great deal of time socializing Astro. He’s about 45 lbs and three years old. He would probably be happiest as the only dog and with older children ,however,Astro is one of those dogs who might well do well with another dog once he was out of the shelter. Thanks to all and please let us know if you have any questions. [email protected] or 201-981-3215

Spike Needs a Rescue Spike is still looking for his forever Spike is a very very nice dog who loves people. He’s smart and sweet and knows some basic... commands He’s 4 years old and wound up at the Yonkers Shelter because of a housing issue. He was well cared for my his former owners. He was a good weight and seems quite healthy. spike loves to run play and get belly rubs. He has a beautiful brindle and white coat with very nice pattens and stand up ears. We think he may be a pit shepherd mix but it’s only an educated guess. Spike would like to be your only pet as he doesn’t want to share his humans. He would be fine with older children. We posted this on Monday but since it was seen by so few of our 86000 followers and friends , here is Precious one more time Please Meet Precious P...recious is a beautiful dog who arrived at the Yonkers Animal Shelter when her owners could no longer care for her She’s about 4.5 years old and maybe 65 lbs. Precious is a calm chill dog who would be great in a home with adults or or one with older respectful children. She is a bit shy and would not be happy in a very busy home with a lot of traffic. Precious is also very smart. She loves treats and when she comes into the food room she makes sure she is getting the best treat available. She loves to play run and get belly rubs. Precious is dog selective and may be happiest as the only dog however we would be happy to arrange a meet n greet with your dog to see if they might be a match. It’s a guess on our part but we think Precious is a Husky Shepherd mix If you would like more info let us know at 201-981-3215 text or call. Or [email protected]

Nikko Needs a Family Nikko has been at the Yonkers Animal Shelter a very long time. Actually longer than any dog, however, he was adopted once and returned... when the people stopped taking good care of him so technically he is here less time however he first arrived in 2017 Nikko would make a great agility dog. He can run and jump in the air and twist like no other dog we know. He can catch a ball or frisbee every time. He loves to run and play and he really loves his tennis balls. He likes to carry two back from his playtime , but if the treats are good he will drop them for you Lol Nikko is a medium size dog in the 45 lb range and he’s between 4 and 5 we think. He needs an experienced bully owner and would be happiest as your only dog. He is a pretty low maintenance dog in the sense that he can amuse himself and doesn’t appear to crave a lot of attention. He has very nice kennel manners and rarely barks. More info is available at [email protected] or 201-981-3215 The Yonkers Shelter is open 7 days a week from 11-4

I have it all folks and I think I am one adorable dude, don’t you agree? I mean look at my smile I just radiate happiness and fun. At 7 I’m still full of life and just ready for any adventure that my person might take me on. I came to Yonkers NY animal shelter in Oct 2018 when my owner could no longer care for me I showed up very undernourished and scared but my tail still never stopped waggin I thrive on human interaction and affection I am always up for an adventure or play session in the yard with people I excel at wet kisses . I was once dog friendly but I could hurt pretty by one and so now who can blame me I rather not share my home with one I am child friendly but am an active , playful dog so probably kids should be at least 8 Please come meet me because this kennel life really stinks and what I really want is to be with my people and by your side, let's make a love connection today, I am ready to hop in the car and wave goodbye to shelter life. Another weeks gone by And I am still at the Yonkers Animal Shelter. The big difference is now I’m spayed and could leave for my new home on a moment...s notice. of course, first I have to find one !! Kelly is a lovely 8 yr young Rottie who has been looking for a forever home for about 3 months. Her owner had no choice but to surrender her when he could no longer care for her. She loves all people. She’s gentle friendly and outgoing. Kelly is also a strong dog about 85 lbs but if instructed to do so she will stay close and walk like a lady ! She seems fine near other dogs and we would say children 10 and up just because of her strength and the fact that Kelly may not have experience with young children. She loves to sit right next to you , preferably on your feet. Maybe that’s Kelly’s way of making sure you don’t leave her behind. Kelly knows a few basic commands and is happy to show them off. She’s a really exceptional dog. For more info 201-981-3215 text or call. Check out another picture in comments

What About Me ? I’d like to go home soon ! Very soon. I’ve been waiting at the Yonkers Shelter for more than a year. It must be my time. ... I’m young. I don’t think I’m more than three years old. I’m energetic and need more exercise than I can get at the shelter. I want to play ball and go on hikes and in the summer I would love to go to the beach ! I’m a nice medium size dog. Not big and not small. Maybe 45 lbs. when I first came I liked other dogs and then after awhile it seemed I didn’t like dogs and then it seems like I liked SOME so. Who knows. If you have a dog and you want to bring HER to meet me we could try. This is what Shadow has to say. He’s also a very smart dog who needs basic manners. Not easy to get in a shelter environment but quite easy once in a home. Shadow knows some basic commands and would love to show them off for you. Please consider him if you have had a dog before , have no kids under 12 and if no other pets even better ! If you have a female dog it’s possible they would get along but it’s not a guarantee of course. If you would like to meet Shadow text or call 201-981-3215 Shelter is open 7 days 11-4
