Burden Lake Bees

It was a tough first winter, finding 4 hives dead. But two hives are going strong, and new bees are coming in April!

We were busy bees on Labor Day. With help from a friend, we were able to extract around 220 lbs of honey our first year. As of last week, the bees had filled their two deeps with honey, and we left one additional medium box of honey for each of the three big hives.

We started our apiary in April with two nucs from #BeeHollowFarm. Our plan was to pollinate the fruits and vegetables on our homestead. In May we obtained an additional colony from a local beekeeper getting out of the business. These three colonies turned into six over the summer!
