2nd Annual Rotary Capital to Capital 5K Run/Walk Sunday October 17th, start time 10am! For the second year, the Rotary Club of Kingston, NY is sponsoring the Capital to Capital 5K run/walk on Sunday October 17th. Check in starts at 9am on Fair Street in front of the Senate House in Uptown Kingston. Start time is 10am, and finishes on Schoolhouse Lane just off Main Street in the village of Hurley. The race is timed, but also at 3.1 miles, its great for groups, teams and famili...es. The event helps to raise funds for the Hudson Valley Center for Veteran Reintegration. The Capital to Capital 5K commemorates the human story of the Burning of Kingston, when, in October 1777, over 2,000 Kingstonians, mostly women, children and elderly, fled to the Town of Hurley seeking refuge as British soldiers burned their city to the ground. This included moving the new State capital from Kingston to the Van Duesen House in Hurley. Participants in the event will follow the same path as fleeing colonists did 244 years ago. (For more information on the history of the Burning of Kingston visit: http://burningofkingston.com ) A UCAT bus will be available to return participants located at the Ernest C Myer Elementary School parking lot between 11am-12noon. The event is open to all with registration online at: https://kingstonnyrotary.org/page/captocap NOTE, there is no registration on race day. A virtual option is available for participants to walk or run a 5 km (3.1 mi) distance on a trail or park in their hometown or elsewhere, anytime between Monday, October 4 and Sunday, October 17 2021. #burningofkingston #senatehouse #hurleyheritagesociety #rotaryofkingston #kingstonny

SAVE THE DATE - The Second Annual Capital 2 Capital Run October 17, 2021 The second annual "Capital to Capital Run" is a commemorative 5K run between Kingston and the Town of Hurley, tracing the trail of colonial refugees fleeing the British soldiers who burned the city down during the American Revolutionary War in 1777. At the time, the New York State Capital was moved from Kinston to Hurley. Starting at the Senate House (the first New York State capital) in Uptown Kingsto...n and finishing at the Van Duesen House on Main Street in Hurley (where the capital was moved), the run is both a family fun run as well as timed for running enthusiasts. The event has both a virtual and real time components. Virtual participants have a two week window to complete the event. #burningofkingston #historickingston #capitaltocapitalrun #kingstonrotary See more

Capital to Capital Run - Fastest Times: "Capital to Capital 5k The inaugural running of the Capital to Capital 5K was not what the organizers originally envisioned. They planned on a traditional 5k road race from Kingston to Hurley. The race was to be put on in conjunction with the Hurley Heritage Day Festival. It was a run and a festival to commemorate Kingston's burning by the British in 1777 and colonial Kingston and Hurley's history. COVID-19 put an end to a one-day race ...and the festival plans but gave birth to the event's virtual running. Participants had two weeks, Oct. 11 through 25, to run the planned course or run the 5k distance anywhere. In the end, the event had 120 registrants and raised money for the Hudson Valley Center for Veteran Reintegration. The fastest male was Travis Greaves of Kingston in 18:53, and the first woman was Susanna Kantor from Denver, Colorado, in 24:15. Kantor is the former Susanna Burr, who ran track for Kingston High School and graduated in 1998. Kantor specialized in the sprints and hurdles in high school. It is immensely satisfying to coaches to see their former athletes still competing so many years later. Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Kingston for presenting this new event."

"All - yesterday several of us got together to run the Burning of Kingston Capital to Capital 5K, using Bard's 5k course. Here are before and after pics. It was a gorgeous day for a run for a good cause! (the run benefitted the Hudson Valley Center for Veteran Reintegration), and our finisher's medals were beautiful handmade wooden "medals" Thank you to those who participated, and for those who helped sponsor our participation.
