African Americans are disproportionately diagnosed with colon cancer earlier and at a more advanced stage than the general population. Our GI societies recommen...d screening in these populations at 45 years old instead of 50 for average risk individuals. Individuals with a 1st degree relative (parent, sibling, child) diagnosed with colon cancer are at higher risk and are often screened earlier. Talk to your doctor if you think screening is indicated for you. Also, ask your loved ones if they have been screened. See more
