The House of John opened its doors in September of 1993 as a nonprofit comfort care home for the terminally ill with a prognosis of three months or less. Their mission is to open the house, their hearts, and their hands to those who need physical care, emotional support, and spiritual sustenance as ...they approach the end of their lives. They care for the dying and their families in our communities in a comfortable, home-like setting with trained volunteers and staff. I aquired the name Cake Baby long before I actually had babies of my own. I was working at Headframe Spirits' tasting room in Butte, America (Montana) stocking the bar and slinging cocktails. I had an unofficial side gig baking cakes out of the home I rented on Beef Trail Rd when more times than not I met my customers at gas stations to swap cake for payment (seemed a lot less shady at the time ). I vividly recall delivering cupcakes on my dirt bike in cowboy boots . Not ...an easy feat but it seemed appropriate back then. A fellow bartender Jeni started calling me Cake Baby addressing both my youth and passion for baking-it didn't take long for it to stick. Before long Cake Baby was my primary name in that town, my lisence plate and 5 years later printed on my chef coat and LLC. 5 years ago (with the help of a small army and my Grandpa) I built my very first Cake Baby cake shop. In this shop I watched my dreams come to life. In the meantime I've had two girls and have carried them along this business adventure in my belly, on my hip, hand in hand. I've tried to keep my business on social media mostly about businesss and not so much about my role as Mom but it's becoming more apparent each day that these roles are tightly interlocked and that my passion for both runs deep. Business owner or not I am Mom 24/7 and I've decided it's time to share the whole picture. I'll be talking more about my experience as a Mom striving to raise my kids by my side as I run my business. I've always wanted to do both. I've always thought I could do both. Truth is it's HARD to do it all but I'm here to try! I've been searching high and low to FIND this delicate balance between running a home, raising kids and owning my business and I've yet to truly find it. This year I'm working to CREATE it "the balance" with consistant, honest, hard work. STEP ONE- Move my cake shop closer to home, much closer, like- right out my back door! In my new space I will continue collaborations with Star Cider, I will fulfill my pre-booked weddings, and I will also be offering small private party classes in the cake studio portion of my shop.
