Pond Frog "husbandry." (It's probably a tad nippy right now...!)

Sharing these reminders from an old friend with some of our newer neighbors as we head toward winter: " I am reminding everyone that it is hunting season in NY and PA right now through mid-December, and it's a good idea to keep your dogs close to your house unless you are walking them, avoid the woods, keep to traveled roads, and you and pet can be decked out in bright colors. There are also coyotes here, and your pet is food to them, so another reason to keep your animals ...inside unless they are out with you. As we go into winter, feeding deer is a very bad idea. There is a disease called Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) that deer can pass to each other. When left to forage, they spread out (social distancing) and are not as likely to be infected as if they are clustered together where a human has put food. They also lose their ability to forage, and pass that knowledge along to their young. For details on these subjects, like the exact dates of hunting season and the habits of our deer herd. you can go to NY Dept of Environmental Conservation (DEC) website, or the PA Fish and Game Commission website. " Stay warm, stay well.
Thanks to the men and women of our volunteer Callicoon Fire Department for keeping us safe in the unbearable heat of summer and the frigid winter!

To our Rafter's friends and family, Rafter's Tavern will be TAKE-OUT ONLY from now until further notice. We will have no indoor dining. Our new hours will b...e Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only from noon to 8pm. As you know, Covid numbers have been rising in Sullivan county and the surrounding area. We feel that we need to do this to keep our employees and our customers safe until this crisis is passed. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will get through this together. See more
