Blessed in the sight of the Lord is the death of one of His saints. We give thanks for the life of Lucile Playfair who died this morning at SWVMC. Lucile served as organist and music director for many years. She will be missed.

The NY-Mechanicville Chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SHP) celebrated their 200th bed delivery on November 30th. The Chapter a little more than a year old has delivered beds to children in, Mechanicville, Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Wilton, Hoosick Falls, Schaghticoke, Cambridge, Valley Falls and many other towns. The Chapter has recently expanded a satellite team covering the Cambridge, Salem, Argyle and many other eastern Washington/Rensselaer County communities. November... brought a record number of deliveries getting 56 kids off the floor. The Chapter attributes its success to the generosity and donations of local communities, churches, businesses and hundreds of volunteers. But more than anything this wouldn't have been possible without the dedication and devotion of the NY-Mechanicville Chapters core team who logged countless hours organizing, soliciting donations, continuous social media coverage, set up and tear down on build days, assisting and coordinating monthly deliveries and being champions for our cause ensuring that NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!!! SHP is a 100% volunteer and donation driven organization donating and delivering beds to children between the ages of 3 and 17 years who are currently sleeping on the floor, air mattress or a pile of clothes. The organization doesn't discriminate any circumstances that precipitate these conditions and there is no income requirement. Chapter leaders have found they are able to help more families retain or recover custody of their children by working with local children and family services agencies. Please visit shpbeds.org then click on the request a bed tab for your own family or on behalf of another. In the coming year the organization is in need of corporate sponsorships, build day sponsors, bedding donations/bedding drives and volunteers. If you would like to help please contact James Welch, [email protected], Facebook- Sleep in Heavenly Peace @ NY, Mechanicville. Communications or monetary donations may be mailed to P.O. Box 664 18 South Main St Mechanicville NY 12118.

Next Steps September 25, 2019 Sleep in Heavenly Peace - Building Beds for Kids The Cambridge Community Center and United Cambridge Presbyterian Church, in coordination with the Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SHP) organization’s coordinator Jim Welch from the Mechanicville SHP Chapter invite you and the members of your church or organization and the employees of your businesses to the "Build of Beds" on Saturday October 5th from 9 am to 4 pm. ... This national organization’s mission is to be sure No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town. We at the Cambridge Community Center have pledged to build 20 twin beds or 10 bunks. We have already found 5 children in need. Please help us to find more! We are continuing to gather money to pay for the materials. Each bunk with 2 wooden beds, mattresses, pillows, sheets, and comforters costs $350. To reach our goal of $3500, please donate to the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church (tax deductible) at 81 East Main St Cambridge, NY 12816 and note Sleep in Heavenly Peace on your check. We are already halfway to our goal!! With these funds Jim arranges with Wiley Lumber who brings the wood to the Brieman building at 81 East Main St. Cambridge. We will be building the beds on the lawn; let’s hope for great weather! The SHP Mechanicville chapter has found other great sources who are working with them to get pillows, mattress, sheets and blankets. These vendors are helping with special pricing to this generous organization! Then, We, You, Your Friends, Our Friends, all come to help build the beds with instruction from Jim’s group (Children under 12 are too young to build but everyone else can!) The SHP team of Mechanicville will be on hand to teach us the steps and tasks to build these beds. We are hoping for a nice day and will build the beds outdoors by the Brieman Community Center building. Dress in clothes that don’t mind a little sawdust! Please let us know if you know anyone under 18 that needs a bed and we’ll get them on the list on the https://www.shpbeds.org/request-free-twin-bunk-bed website. Our group will also participate in the deliveries of the beds on another day. We’ll keep you posted. Call the Church 518-677-3863 or email [email protected] for more info. Until then, we are, In this together, Kate Kotfila Nancy Brown Pastor Admin of Good Neighbors

Hope you can make it to the meeting tonight at 7pm! James Welch from the Mechanicville chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace will share how the Cambridge community can make this important project happen here. No experience is necessary to help make sure no child has to sleep on the floor. TONIGHT Friday, September 13 at 7pm in the Brieman Building

Cambridge United Community Center 07.01.2020

An estimated 2.2 million children in the United States sleep on the floor every night. A bed is a basic need for the proper physical, mental and emotional support that a child needs. All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. On October 5 we are partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to solve this problem for some area kids in need. We're having a planning meeting this Friday, September 13 at 7pm in the Brieman Building to get the project rolling. ... ***NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED!*** You can learn everything you need to participate in the build on the day AND we need volunteers before the October 5 build too, so there are plenty of opportunities to be involved! Please join us on Friday, September 13 at 7pm in the Brieman Building to learn more about this exciting volunteer experience. WHO CAN VOLUNTEER: Build days are meant for communities to come together to serve. Because of this we encourage kids, adults, families, co-workers, neighborhoods, community groups, churches, organizations, businesses, schools etc to sponsor or participate in a build day. We do ask that participants are over 12 years of age and that minors are accompanied by a legal guardian.

Thanks to the American Legion for hosting us, the Boy Scouts for providing awesome children's games, and AHI for providing information about healthy living and insurance opportunities. Donated clothes and toys found new homes. We ate and played, ran around in the rain and found out how hard it is to get to the candy in a pinata!

Thank you to Pastor Kate Kotifila for hosting a well-attended interfaith discussion this evening at the Cambridge United Community Center. It is only through d...ialogue such as this that we build rapport and tear down misunderstanding - misunderstanding only feeds ignorance and creates fear. Dialogue, on the other hand, promotes understanding and helps discover common ground and common humanity. Now if we could only do this with those of different political stripes...
