Deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Meade Hutchins. Meade seemingly served forever as the Town of Indian Lake Building Inspector and Tax Assessor. In those two capacities he was surely the most lied-to person in the entire community. As someone who was trying to grow a small business, our objectives seldom coincided. It often seemed that Meade was the source of so much anxiety in my life that he might as well have been a family member. I never won an argument with Meade..., but I always came away feeling I'd been treated fairly by someone who knew what they were talking about. It seemed like Meade was the first person to work at Town Hall every single day he ever worked there. I know it hurt him to his core to serve the Town so faithfully in executing the contentious tasks he'd been assigned, because being met with untruthfulness was a chronic part of his job. That he calmly performed his tasks so diligently, so intelligently, and so honestly speaks of a man of great character. Over the years, he helped mould me into a more responsible citizens - one who appreciated the value of the building code and the rationale application of tax assessment. He helped make Camp Driftwood the place that it is. I grew enormously fond of him, as you do with someone who helps you become a better person. Indian Lake has lost a great piece of itself. See more
MOST ORIGINAL CUSTOMER COMPLAINT OF 2021 (so far): Hi Jon Just to letting you know we had a weasel in the cabin this morning. It was seen in the kitchen coming from under the refrigerator then went underneath the stove. We searched high and low but we’re pretty sure it’s gone. Not sure how it got in or out but it must be somewhere from the kitchen. Luckily the dogs don’t notice it but thought you’d like to know.... Renee and Tony

REVEALED FOR THE FIRST TIME: The unexpectedly amazing view from upstairs in the new Pine.
BLOW OUT. Warm temperatures and heavy rains on Christmas raised the lake level a couple of feet and wiped out most of the ice.

Took a neat little hike to these massive boulders, known as "glacial erratics", with my friend Marc Hauser. About 10,000 years ago, these stones must have melted out of the mile-thick ice cap that covered what is now Indian Lake. Scraped off Snowy Mountain, or maybe carried all the way from Canada, they must at some point in their existence been oriented in such a way that a water course or ages of glacial melt worked these hundreds of potholes into them. Upended as they sett...led out of the ice, they now present these fascinating figures to anyone willing to walk the mile-long improvised trail near Snowy Mountain. This is not a marked, State trail, but it is well-traveled and easy to follow. It begins a few hundered yards north of the Watch Hill trailhead, off the west side of Route 30, in between two tightly spaced highway reflectors. We were told the place is called Tifony Rocks. A short bushwack from the Rocks trail is Griffin Brook, the bed of which was beautifully exposed thanks to our unusually dry summer. See more
