The New York state burn ban is in effect from March 16 through May 14. Open burning is prohibited in New York, with several exceptions. Guidelines are available from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation: https://on.ny.gov/3ev5PTZ
With the amount of snow we have received you must check these vents on your house!!! Newer furnaces vent and draw in air from PVC pipes to the outside, as pictured. In order to function properly, they must be free of snow and ice accumulation. This can also cause a deadly level of CO in your home. ... #beprepared #carbonmonoxide
Just a reminder to please keep the fire hydrant closest to your property clear of snow and other debris.
We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of retired firefighter William Booner Nalli. Boomer was an icon in our department for over 50 years. We will miss his smile and witty sense of humor. To the Nalli family we are so sorry for your loss and you are in our thoughts and prayers. Boomer thank you for all your years of dedication, service and humor. Rest easy brother, we will take it from here.
Congratulations and thank you for all the support you give our department.
State Fire reminds New Yorkers about the importance of keeping a natural tree properly hydrated since trees can rapidly dry out, increasing the risk of fire. Al...ways keep the tree stand secure and filled with water. Do not place a tree near a heat source, including a fireplace or heat vent. Do not put a live tree up too early or leave it up for too long. Remember to have working smoke alarms. #firepreventionfriday See more

National First Responders Day; National First Responders Day takes place on October 28 and commemorates the heroic acts of the men and women who are there first on the scene of an emergency. This day is all about showing appreciation for firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, police, and others who risk their lives to save others. Thank you for all you do every day! Be safe out there!!
Last night while the department was out on an EMS call we were dispatched to a possible structure fire at the Chinese Restaurant in the Price Chopper Plaza. Upon arriving on scene our Chief requested a full house roll from Fort Plain FD as there was heavy smoke showing and there was one person unaccounted. That person was quickly located outside the back of the structure. All stores in the vicinity of the restaurant were evacuated. The fire was contained to the kitchen area b...y the sprinkler system. The heavy smoke was ventilated from three businesses and sprinkler system was shut off. Code enforcement and a sprinkler system technician were notified. The outcome was minor fire damage, smoke and water damage in two businesses. Thank you to Fort Plain FD, STJ Ambulance(SAVAC), Montgomery County Fire Coordinators, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department (road patrol and 911 Dispatch), Village of Palatine Bridge Code Officer, and PFP (Professional Fire Protection) for there assistance.

Creosote accumulation is the leading cause of chimney fires. Nearly all residential fires originating in the chimney are preventable. An annual chimney inspection by a qualified sweep can help prevent fire or CO poisoning. #firepreventionfriday #publicsafety

TBT - If you grew up in the Canajoharie/Palatine Bridge area as a kid and you were sitting in school, did you know your fire signal when the alarm sounded? As an adult when the fire signal alarm sounded, did you run to this chart just to see where it was?
