What sort of newborn sessions do you like? I have never really done studio newborn sessions...you know the ones that have a detailed backdrop and you put your baby in a bucket? Some moms love those. Some moms don't. I'm here to tell you to find what you love. If a more connected, less posed style speaks to you, there are options for that too. I prefer to visit new moms in their homes and wrap them comfortably. Sometimes it's about making hard choices and compromise. I find that my the mistakes in my sessions are constantly a lesson in that. For the most part I'll take connection over perfection, and this photo is a great example of that. The dad's foot..its so distracting that it almost makes me feel a little uncomfortable (I know my artistic eye can be super weird). I could have told dad to move it, but this adorable kid would have been long gone, and I would have missed this ...sweet moment between him and his mom so I let it go. There's something about the youngest. I'm not much for birth order theories, but there is something to say about knowing that you're done with growing your family. It really is a true loss: loss of seeing them all squishy and small, knowing you won't be needed as much, they won't rely on you for help. Knowing that they will be making choices and that you may not be a part of them....and knowing that you might not have done it right in this giant parenting experiment. I ho...pe we can honor that loss, and then move past it to know if we're mourning it, it means we've thought about why which ultimately means we're doing our very best. Motherhood is hard. Fall legit started a month ago in my brain. For those of you that don't already know I'm a native Canadian that has been in the US for quite some time. Some things though never change....winter is a month longer and starts a month earlier (and ends a month later, I know this math doesn't add up :]). Needless to say I'm bracing for the cold and the snow that usually doesn't come. I also didn't grow up having Thanksgiving or pumpkin pie. My kids got big all the sudden. My oldest is creeping up on his teen years and I don’t feel quite as prepared as I think I need to be.
