Remote schooling during the pandemic is taking its toll. The dramatic drop in reports of child abuse and neglect is largely the result of teachers not seeing students in person or communicating with them at all in many cases. Teachers account for about a quarter of reports to children’s services; the lack of in-person schooling means that more kids are left in dangerous situations for longer. #casakids https://www.city-journal.org/toll-of-remote-schooling-on-vu
If you are looking for a lovely gift for that special someone, proceeds from sales of the Stronger Together necklace will benefit Jewelers for Children, an initiative of the jewelry industry that, since 1999, has donated nearly $57 million to programs benefiting children whose lives have been affected by illness, abuse or neglect. https://instoremag.com/gabriel-stronger-together-necklace-/
There is a new initiative in NYC. Parents with experience dealing with the foster care system will advise and support parents aiming to be reunified with their children. The goal is for parent advocates to be a resource for anyone dealing with the foster care system. https://www.nynmedia.com//nyc-launches-pilot-expand-use-pa

Coming up later this month. Based on a study conducted by ACS in New York City.
Good news for foster children in New York: New York State to ban face-down restraining holds. The proposed statewide regulations are part of an ongoing transformation of the child welfare system that recognizes the trauma youth have experienced who are in the care of programs we license and certify, said Monica Mahaffey, an OCFS spokesperson. Adoption of these regulations will codify our focus on crisis de-escalation and non-physical interventions, she added. CASA adds, "Here, here!" #fosterchildren https://www.thecity.nyc//new-york-state-ban-face-down-rest

CASANYS congratulates CASA of New York City for being awarded The Promising Practices Spotlight Award by National CASA for its Youth Leadership Council program. This award highlights a successful, replicable practice that exemplifies creativity in a program’s pursuit to provide that quality advocacy. The Youth Leadership Council is an innovative project that engages and empowers youth who have experienced foster care to use their voices to advocate for improvements in child welfare services. These youth are involved in the CASA program’s training, strategic planning and program practices, providing unique insights that better position the program to support youth in foster care. Congratulations CASA-NYC! #casa https://nationalcasagal.org/national-casa-gal-announces-20/
