When Casowasco was purchased in 1946, there were 5 structures already built on the site. They were the buildings we know as Galilee Lodge, the Emmaus Commons, Nazareth Lodge (dem. 1972), the train station, and what other structure that stood on the location of what is now Bethany Lodge? Can you name it in the comments below? #casowasco #tbt #throwbackthursday

On June 23, 1946, a dedication service was held at Casowasco to officially open the first season of summer programs. The service was led by Bishop Earl Ledden, and included contributions from many key individuals vital to securing and developing the Case property, including Walter Long, Lester Schaffer, Clytus Mowry, Warren Odom, and Harold Swales. #TBT #Casowasco

One of the most influential people responsible for securing the Case Property for the Methodist Church was Professor Walter Long, a member of Auburn First Methodist Church. Professor Long was recruited to assist the search committee by Lester Schaff, and had previously secured the Case Research Lab in Auburn to serve as the Cayuga Museum of History & Art. It was Professor Long who first visited the property with his pastor, Warren Odom. The two traveled by boat in the winte...r of 1945 and immediately recognized the properties potential for transformational ministry. On January 30 of 1946, Long and Odom gave the rest of the search committee a tour of the grounds, and recommended its purchase to Bishop Earl Ledden. The very next day, Bishop Ledden sent out the call for a special session of the Annual Conference to approve the purchase. Pictured below is Professor Walter K. Long, taken at the Cayuga Museum of History and Art, which he secured and founded. #TBT #casowasco
