It's a struggle this time of year for a lot of folks in New England. Winter can be isolating for those who don't have the means or motivation or ability to get outside. Hey! Hey! Good Morning! I'm one of the igniters behind the Cortland Mural Project-a fundraiser for a mural on South Main St., Cortland. I consider myself a newbie to Cortland, living here just shy of two years. I landed on Pierce St. off of South Ave while I started my flower operation on an 1/8 of an acre at Main Street Farms. The neighborhood seemed a bit worse for wear at first glance, but it wasn’t long before I began to see all the gems underneath-I came to understand wh...at community means, and in this place, it’s about taking care of each other. No one here is perfect, and I see time after time people meeting people where they are, not where they’re expected to be. I see free libraries and little blue cabinets magically stocked with canned goods and hygiene products. I see mutual aid gatherings, food donations and safe places to work. This mural fundraiser has only affirmed what I know the Cortland community to be. It’s 96 individuals donating money for public art. It’s 66 people sharing the project with their network. It’s having an offer from an individual to prep the building for free. It’s having small businesses give big and sponsor the equipment and supplies needed. We have raised over $6,000 so far, $4,000 of that within the last two weeks. We are almost to our fundraising goal, especially now with some of the prep costs knocked off! I am fundraising for this project because I know art matters and we humans need it. I donated because it’s a way for me to give to a community I have benefitted from. I just love this by @saltcitybar of my arrangement framed by @tarotakizawart mural. Yesterday you may have caught a glimpse of these gorgeous tulips, grown in the ADK's by @littlefarmhouseflowers .
