On the heels of our exciting film adventure of the Nutcracker's "The Gift of Flowers", Catskill Ballet Theatre also filmed a piece from our cancelled "Alice in Wonderland" production last spring. We are able to share it with you now as part of Bardavon's "Envision Kingston" on January 2nd at 7pm and we hope you will watch and enjoy the contributions of so many local artists working to keep the arts alive. Enjoy a piece from Alice in Wonderland in Bardavon Presents Envision Kingston tomorrow at 7 PM! We are excited to be part of this event with other Kingston artists and to share a small part of the ballet that we were unable to bring to the stage in 2020.

Please take a few minutes to relax from the holiday rush to enjoy our gift of the Waltz of the Flowers released last week and enjoyed by an audience around the globe. Spoiler alert - the dramatic finish featuring our dancers against a mighty view of the Hudson River is not to be missed!

Catskill Ballet would like to send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and students of the inimitable Diana Banks, who died earlier this month at her home in High Falls, NY. Diana served as resident choreographer and stage manager of Catskill Ballet Theatre for many years and will be remembered with fondness and affection. Diana was the choreographer for CBT's productions of Once Upon A Time and Alice in Wonderland, which the company was slated to perform this Ma...y for the first time in seventeen years. As a student, I had the privilege of learning roles such as "Tweedle Dee" and "The Mouse" in Alice and Wonderland and "The Witchbird" in Once Upon A Time from Diana, as well as countless upbeat and jazzy creations for the school and company's smaller performances. I am quite certain Diana did not reach 5 feet tall, but she stands like a giant in my memories- peering over her dark rimmed spectacles, a penetrating eye and quick humor- I can hear her voice and that fantastic laugh and it brings a smile to my face every time. It saddens me that we were not able to perform her ballet this year, but also inspires me to look to future opportunities to keep her creations alive- to hear the audience squeal at the site of the multi-legged caterpillar or giggle at the antics of her King of Hearts. Thank you Diana, for the smiles and the work- for a lifetime devoted to dance, children, animals and the arts. Brava.
