Journaling is shown to have a positive impact on mental health, self-awareness, and healing. However, it can be challenging to start, keep up, or find consistently valuable. In this 2-hour workshop, we rethink journaling and how it is a powerful tool for keeping healthy relationships with ourselves and others. ... Who is this event for? Asian Americans who are: Undocumented From mixed-status families Recently achieved citizenship Navigating emotions in today’s unpredictable world may be challenging, confusing, or painful. What are the unique needs of our communities, and how do emotions tie into them? How can the ways we talk / write about our emotions impact our ability to identify, process, and validate our experiences? How can journaling strengthen our relationships with ourselves? How can journaling help free us in a world that often doesn’t feel free? Join RAISE (Revolutionizing Asian Immigrant Stories on the East Coast) for a workshop on February 12th, 6PM in downtown Manhattan (location will be disclosed to participants prior to the event). Unpack the multi-layered Asian American experience as they relate to our emotional selves and legal status with facilitator Jess Song. In this first workshop, she will guide participants to tackle the following questions: How do emotional communication styles, identity perceptions, and cultural experiences affect our journaling practice? The current immigration context has left many students and families scared and uncertain about their future and treatment in the country. This video series highlights ways educators can protect, educate and uplift their immigrant communities through examples of schools doing right by immigrant students and information about current policies and actions they can take.
