An in-the-canal hearing aid fits partly into your ear canal. It doesn’t go in as far as the completely-in-the-canal hearing aid, but it is custom-molded to your ear and is less visible than some of the larger models.

Satirist Stephen Colbert, who is scheduled to succeed David Letterman as host of the Late Night show, was diagnosed with a tumor in his ear canal as a child. The eardrum was removed in the surgery, leaving Colbert deaf in his right ear.

With conductive hearing loss, the inner ear works properly but something is keeping sound from passing through the outer/middle ear to the inner ear. A hearing aid can help considerably with this type of hearing loss.
