Sunday Service Livestream - Fear Not | January 17, 2021
Rather than attacking our culture out of defensiveness, or withdrawing out of pride, or assimilating out of fear, what are we supposed to do? We're supposed to engage our world in mission out of humility, courage and love for Jesus's sake. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 #mission #humility #courage #love #Jesus #abetterresistance #christianity #parkavenue #uppereastside #engage #abetterway #outsider
Sunday Service Livestream - When All the Maps Are Wrong
Our winter sermon series "A Better Resistance" begins this Sunday! "Blue Sky" by @geoffreyjohnsonart The Apostle Peter's first letter was written to the early Christians living throughout the Roman provinces of Asia Minor. Not unlike today, the early Christians struggled to live out their faith in an intensely pluralistic context in which the majority of their friends and neighbors believed very different things about the world than they did. Peter has much to teach us today about how to embody the gospel in a predominantly non-Christian society and offers us encouragement as we seek to thoughtfully engage our contemporary culture. Register to attend the service in our sanctuary or join us online to watch the livestream. Link in bio!
Happy 200th birthday to us! On January 8, 1821 Central was founded by 22-year-old Rev. William Patton who graduated from Middlebury College in 1818 and studied at the newly-formed Princeton Theological Seminary. Patton founded the church with his wife Mary and four other people, and the church was incorporated as a New York religious corporation on February 6, 1821. Sunday Service Livestream - Godly Joy | January 3, 2020
People use their privilege--their money, education, skills, influence, and network--to benefit themselves, but that's not the way it's supposed to be. We are called to use our privilege not for ourselves but to share our privilege for the sake of others. We share our wealth, money, education, skills, and network for the good of others. But what would ever compel us to act like that? Why would we ever share our privilege when we don't have to? The only answer is Jesus. Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; Come before him with joyful songs. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Mission in a Secular Age
Let us be consistent and take action. Let us be the kind of community that doesn't just say what is right but promotes what is right with the same love and grace that has been shown to us by Jesus. Before we try to change the world, let us ourselves be a people who have been changed by Christ. Then and only then can we faithfully and accurately represent Christ to our world. The church will never see repentance in the world until the world sees repentance in the church. _____...___ Watch the full sermonfrom this past Sunday> link in bio www.centralchurchnyc.org/sermons ________ #bookofluke #consistent #love #grace #changed #represent #faithful #repentance #neighbor #mercy #usandthem #livefromnewyork #onlineservice #Jesus
Sunday Service Livestream - What's That in Your Eye? | October 11, 2020
It is still a radical idea that Jesus calls us to not merely love the person next door or to love one of our fellow people, someone who belongs to our "tribe", but to loveanyonewho we are in a position to love--even our enemy. It's all about asking the right question--not "who is my neighbor?" but "to whom must I prove that I am a neighbor?" #goodsamaritan #bookofluke #radicallove #neighbor #lovingourenemy #grace #mercy #therightquestion #usandthem #livefromnewyork #onlineservice #Jesus

It is going to be okay because the most important event that will ever take place has already happened. The world's true king has already ascended to power--not by humiliating his opponents or by sitting on a golden throne, but rather by dying for his enemies and hanging from a wooden cross. He is the one who brings us the good news that everything is going to be made right when he returns. #goodnews #hope #grace #united #love #usandthem #livefromnewyork #onlineservice
