I want to share with all our followers that there are many new treatment options for people suffering with arthritis in their higher joints ( shoulder , knee and hips) . Our knowledge and our technology is constantly evolving . Often times people elect to choose a joint replacement but not everyone can undergo these surgeries or may be they choose against the surgical options because of the risks, longer recovery and the anesthesia ri...sks. You should know that as interventional pain specialists we can offer nerve blocks and radio frequency ablations of very specific sensory nerves which innervates these joints. It takes about 15 minutes and it is well tolerated especially with IV sedation and lots of numbing medication. There is no down time and the relief occurs often right away. It can last over a year( and sometimes much longer) and it can delay a joint replacement or even avoid the need for you to have a more invasive surgical procedure. And the good news is that all these procedures are covered by most insurances . If on the other hand you would like to actually repair the joint while avoiding surgery then consider PRP injections and adult stem cells procedures. These are not covered by insurances yet and the cost ranges from a few hundred dollars to a few thousands ( under 4) . It is a one time treatment . Studies consistently show that these treatments are very effective and safe. In fact they are superior in effectiveness to steroid injection and most replacement surgeries.
