It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ex Chief , Ex Commissioner and life member (70 years) Douglas Hunter. As a department and as friends , we are all better for having known him. He will be greatly missed. His passing creates a void in our department that cannot be filled. As additional information becomes available we will let you know on plans to celebrate his life and legacy.
28 yeas ago.... The 1993 World Trade Center bombing was a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, carried out on February 26, 1993, when a truck bomb detonated below the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The 1,336 lb (606 kg) urea nitratehydrogen gas enhanced device was intended to send the North Tower (Tower 1) crashing into the South Tower (Tower 2), bringing both towers down and killing tens of thousands of people. It failed to do so, but killed six people, including a pregnant woman, and injured over one thousand. About 50,000 people were evacuated from the buildings that day.
Let’s do it again!!
Huge shout out to the Chappaqua Moms who delivered these awesome baked goods! Thanks for thinking of us!
Help support the Andy DiMaggio Memorial Fund!
Back at it again, reminding residents to dig out their hydrants after the storm. Once the frigid weather comes next week it will be solid ice and the hydrant may be unusable. Photo borrowed from Somers VFD
Happy Hanukkah!
Last night at 9:44 PM the Chappaqua Fire Department responded to an auto accident on the Saw Mill Parkway. Upon arrival a car was found over the guardrail down a 30 foot embankment approximately 10 yards from the Metro North Railroad tracks. The initial call to Westchester County Police was for a tree down in the roadway. Once on scene police found a tree down with extensive damage to the guardrail and found the vehicle and the driver. Police officers and by standers removed ...the driver from the area of the vehicle and started medical treatment. Firefighters upon arrival used thermal imaging technology to search the area to ensure no additional people were involved and thrown from the vehicle. Firefighters and police used ropes to descend to the vehicle to ensure there was no fire hazards or gas spill. Once Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Westchester EMS Paramedics transported the driver to the hospital, firefighters cut a section of guardrail out to assist Marks Towing with the removal of the vehicle. @chappaquaambulance @westchesterems @wcpdny
