With only 18 days till Christmas, there has never been a better time to lift your spirit than with a great Italian meal. With Christmas music in the air and San...ta at the door, Wise Guys Ristorante Italian restaurant is Italian at its best. They have been at this new location in Chaumont since April of this year. This family-owned business was built from the ground up by the owners. They have created an exquisite dining experience with the feel of a small Italian restaurant (even though they occupy 5,000 square feet). Working with the town a 4-acre new park also is adjacent to the restaurant. The view of the bay is beautiful and perfect for outdoor dining in the summer They started us today with a fresh loaf of Italian bread hot out of the oven. For appetizers, we went with some of the most amazing garlic knots we have ever had. They were loaded with butter and garlic. And I mean loaded! The Polpetta was Italian meatballs deep fried and served over wilted spinach, romano cheese, and tomato sauce. Our dinner tonight consisted of De Angel, sea scallops with fresh mushrooms in a wine cream sauce over a Sacchettini pasta that looked like small presents with a bow on top. The mushrooms were large and served fresh. As always we shared our meals so everyone could comment. The Fra Diavolo was loaded with shrimp, scallops, mushrooms, and green pepper served in a spicy tomato sauce over linguini. The veal Marsala and the veal parmesan were specials that were not on the menu. In each case the serving was served on a turkey plate it was so large. The taste was phenomenal, only a true Italian restaurant can make veal like this. For dessert, we went with the Sweet Knots (you can see it being made in the picture). It was dough hand-tied in a knot, baked, then sprinkled with a generous portion of cinnamon and sugar then drizzled with a warm glaze. There were no leftovers here. One of the house specialty pizzas was the Garlic and Feta Cheese. It had bacon, cherry tomatoes, and spinach with their signature garlic sauce as the base. The thin NYC style crust made it well worth the return visit (although to go this time). We also had a large pizza with sausage, pepperoni, bacon, ham, anchovies, and green peppers (Soldier Style). It was amazing, even reheated the next day. Now that’s a pizza! The wings were meaty and crispy, the perfect combination for a great Pizza. They also make their Italian Dressing and sell it as well to take home. Our server today was joyful and full of Christmas cheer Jennifer. Having been employed by the family for 10 years she was to perfect complement to guide us through a large number of choices. With Andy working as the front man and the rest of the family in the kitchen (Amy, Angelo, and Anthony) this is a traditional family-owned restaurant. NOTE: This is a Toys for Tots drop location. They are located at 12208 NYS Route 12E in Chaumont. Call them at 315-649-5200. Call in advance to confirm hours (and make reservations on the weekends). Open 5-8 Wed-Sun and Fri-Sat 5-9. Sysco Syracuse is their sole supplier.

Friday afternoon we received a phone call from 911 dispatch, as always our response is what do you have? They tell us well it’s not one you see everyday, there ...is a firetruck flipped upside down..... in a lake. Without hesitation we say where is it? We were told it was located on Wesley island so we dispatched two heavy wreckers to the scene to find a firetruck completely upside down in the lake. The truck was trying to pump water into other trucks to fight a cottage fire down the road. The shoulder gave way and then truck fell into the lake. The two firefighters that were operating the truck suffered only minor injuries. The truck was slid up out of the water on its top then flipped onto its wheels. The truck was then towed away to our yard. We would like to thank all the first responders on scene with their assistance in picking up all the equipment that fell out out the truck into the water and on the ground. Once again for all of your towing and recovery needs give us a call at 3157885006. See more
